Opening Plenary: The Power of People, The Power of Data and Technology
‘The RDA is a place where you are all welcome’ – Hilary Hanahoe
The Opening Plenary meeting focused on the power of you; the truly global and multi-disciplinary RDA community. RDA Secretary General Hilary Hanahoe opened with some words of welcome before welcoming our first keynote speaker of VP24 and winner of the 2024 winner of the Sarah Jones Award for Exceptional Contribution to Fostering Collaboration in Open Science, Aleksandra Lazić.
Aleksandra discussed her award winning work as manager of REPOPSI and gave advice to others starting out on their research data management journey:
‘Don’t be afraid to do things imperfectly..you can always learn and improve as you go’
Bringing us back to the theme of VP24 – ‘Data for Emerging Technologies’ – Shalini Kurapati, PhD, RDA Community Development Specialist discussed why the RDA is the perfect platform to ensure the massive opportunities of AI for science and research are capitalised on, whilst staying mindful of the risks.
The session ended with Ryan O’Connor and Rob Quick highlighting the impact that the RDA TIGER and TIGRUS projects have on ensuring the impact of RDA outputs through their Working Group facilitation services, grants, and other services.
