Yannis Ioannidis

Yannis Ioannidis (UC Berkeley PhD, 1986) is the President of ACM (Association for Computing Machinery). He is a Professor at the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the University of Athens and an affiliated faculty at the ATHENA Research and Innovation Center, where he served as President and General Director for 10 years. His research work focuses on data and information management systems (especially complex search, query processing & optimisation, and scientific data management), data science, data infrastructures and digital libraries & repositories, recommender systems and personalisation, and interactive digital storytelling. He has been the coordinator and legal entity head of OpenAIRE, which implements the European policy for open science and open access, the software director of the FET flagship Human Brain Project, the coordinator of the strategic European Open Science Cloud Future project, and tens of other European and national projects on the management of research data or other digital content in diverse industrial, social, or scientific contexts (natural sciences and engineering, life sciences, social sciences and humanities, and the arts). Yannis Ioannidis is an ACM and IEEE Fellow and a member of Academia Europae, and has received several research and teaching awards. He is a permanent expert in the Greek delegation at ESFRI (European Strategic Forum on Research Infrastructures), where he has also served as ESFRI vice-chair, member of the Executive Board, and the Greek delegate for over 10 years. He is a co-chair of the Global Climate Hub of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
