Ugochi Okengwu

Dr. Ugochi Adaku Okengwu, Associate Professor of Computer Science at the department of Computer Science, University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). She has received research awards to develop a predictive model that will determine the best location to build a new hospital, sponsored by TWAS-DFG. Presently developing a sentiment analysis to determine the polarity of climate change textual data in Nigeria specifically Niger Delta region sponsored by UMAPS-University of Michigan. She is a Zonal coordinator and member of the Organization of Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), and also a member of the Association of Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). She received a scholarship for Artificial Intelligence for Development in Africa (AI4D) to develop and deploy an AI-based system that will predict tomato leaf virus diseases sponsored by IDRC and SIDA, which will help farmers in Nigeria. My research is centered on using AI models to solve complex problems. My specific interest in joining the EOSC-Future / RDA Artificial Intelligence and Data Visitation Working Group (AIDV-WG) is to be able to generate climate datasets around Nigeria with sensors and equally combine them with satellite data available so as to develop a time series model that will forecast the impact of climate change in Nigeria by 2030. This will enable me to contribute to the Open Science initiative and enhance the SDGs goals by making the dataset collected and model developed and deployed accessible for interdisciplinary research, which will contribute to climate change positive solutions in Nigeria, West Africa.
