Shamima Lasker
Shamima Parvin Lasker, PhD (USA), EMMB (Europe), MPH (USA), MPhil (BD), MSc (BD) is a researcher, an Anatomist, bioethicist, and journal Editor. Of her 35 years of teaching career, she has been working as Professor and Head of Anatomy since 2007 in Bangladesh. She is also the Visiting Professor of Clinical Anatomy, Dentistry and Bioethics, AUSN, USA.
Of 40 years of research experience in public health and social research, Prof Lasker has done research on climate change, healthcare, elderly people, sexual abuse, gender, policy, food insecurity, artificial intelligence, IRB, research ethics, publication ethics, and bioethics. Shamima has seventy-seven (77) peer-reviewed articles and has authored many books on Anatomy, Bioethics and Publication Ethics. She has been conferred many awards nationally and internationally. Most prestigious awards include ENAI (European Network of Academic Integrity) award, ASOMPS-X ward & Ministry of Science and Technology. Prof Shamima bagged fourteen national and international research grants, including UNFPA, WHO (Geneva), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Planning, DGHS, University Grants Commission, and BMRC. Shamima worked as a consultant on bioethics for UNESCO in 2009, and FAO in 2015 respectively. She is the President of, Asian Bioethics Association. At the national level, Prof Lasker is the Founding Chairman and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Bioethics Society. Prof Shamima is the pioneer in bioethics in Bangladesh. In recognition of her dedicated work and organizing ability to promote the cause of bioethics in Bangladesh, she has been honored as “Honorary Lifetime Membership” of the UNESCO Asia Pacific School of Ethics in 2009.
She is also a member of the National Ethics Committee of Bangladesh for four consecutive terms (2009-2024).
Prof. Shamima has been advocating for the advancement of women scientists development and progress since 2006. As a former Vice Chair, BD Chapter, OWSD, (Organization of Women in Science in Developing Countries), She successfully interlinked women scientists nationally and internationally and enhanced opportunities for professional development and empowered them in S&T.
Prof Shamima has been occupying herself in the Journal editorial system nationally and internationally since 2001. She was the treasurer of World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) for the year of 2017-2019 and also served WAME as Director between 2012 and 2014. Presently, she has been serving as Vice President of APAME (Asia Pacific Association of Medical Journal Editors) for 2023-2025. In the National Level, she is the Vice President of the Bangladeshi Society for Scholarly Journal Editors (BASE) and the Member Secretary of Bangladesh Scholarly Medical Journal Editors (BSMJE) for publication ethics.
