Meeting objectives

The DMP Common Standards WG has produced an application profile, intended to be used as a standard for exchanging machine-actionable DMPs. The standard is now frozen and we are seeking adopters.

  • Demonstrate adoptions for the DMP Common standard
  • Encourage adoption of the DMP Common standard
  • Examine the use of the DMP Common standard in the Australian regional context
  • Promote discussion of the DMP Common standard

Target audience

The target audience is anyone who might benefit from creating machine actionable data management plans. This could include researchers, repository operators, service providers, policy makers, research facilitators. While we are looking for people who could directly adopt the model, we are also looking for generally interested people who can advise and test assumptions and processes.

Short Group Status

Data Management Plans are free-form text documents describing the data that are used and produced during the course of research activities. They specify where the data will be archived, which licenses and constraints apply, and to whom credit should be given, etc. The workload and bureaucracy often associated with traditional DMPs can be reduced when they become machine-actionable.

The DMP Common Standards WG has developed an application profile that allows information from traditional DMPs to be expressed in a machine-actionable way. It allows for automatic exchange, integration, and validation of information provided in DMPs.The standard developed by this group facilitates the exchange of information between systems acting on behalf of stakeholders involved in the research life cycle, such as, researchers, funders, repository managers, ICT providers, librarians, etc.Currently, being in maintenance mode, the group is seeking adopters to the standard.
