Nick Jones
Nick is the Director of Digital Research Innovation and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Auckland Waipapa Tauamata Rau. Nick was the Founding Director of the New Zealand eScience Infrastructure (2011-2025), a comprehensive eScience investment for the New Zealand research sector. Nick has held advisory and governance roles with a range of research and infrastructure organisations, including a member of the Organisational Advisory Board for the Research Data Alliance, Chair of the Board NZ SKA Alliance, member of the Tuakiri Identity Federation Incorporated Society Board, Advisory Board member of the Centre of Methods and Policy Application in the Social Sciences. Nick is currently a member of the eResearch Governance Group for the University of Auckland.
Nick has led and governed a range of capability and infrastructure investments, including in artificial intelligence for science, high performance supercomputing, federated identity management, eresearch or escience or cyberinfrastructure, and secondary and tertiary education e-learning and assessment systems. Nick has commercialised research and industry applications of advanced ICT, taught and mentored students and consulted with industry on their technology strategies, and maintained a particular focus on developing strategic Technology Roadmapping skills and capabilities within fast growth IT companies and cultures focused on customer discovery and lean principles.
