The objective of this meeting is to receive community feedback on the proposal for the creation of the new Engaging Researchers With Research Data Interest Group.
The idea to create this group is an outcome of a project initiated this year by the Libraries for Research Data Interest Group. This project, which counts with the active participation of 29 colleagues from 3 different continents, gathered case studies on how academic institutions engage with researchers about research data. Out of just over 200 submitted cases, 20+ considered the most innovative, were selected for inclusion in a textbook, which will provide an outline of each activity. Those who participated in the project so far thought that they would like to keep the group and the forum for information exchange alive to stay abreast about new innovative activities aiming to increase researcher engagement with research data. There is currently no forum or place in the international community, where this topic could be directly addressed. In addition, it was felt that this is a topic that is of interest and concern also to colleagues outside of the library community, therefore outside the scope of the current Libraries for Research Data Interest Group. Hence, the suggestion that a new dedicated Interest Group within RDA addressing this gap should be created.
During the meeting, the group will present its work so far, discuss the rationale for the creation of the new IG, and subsequently present the IG charter proposal for community discussion.
We are also planning to invite a representative of the Disciplinary Collaboration Framework IG to attend our meeting.
