Joseph Padfield
As one of the Principal Scientists at the National Gallery, London, he brings extensive expertise in data management, digital infrastructure, open-linked FAIR data, conservation documentation, generating and sharing digital images, image processing, web development, preventive conservation, museum lighting, colour science, and the technical examination of paintings.His primary research interests focus on the organisation and sustainability of Heritage Science data, the generation of FAIR digital resources, and the development of practical digital infrastructure solutions. He spearheads the National Gallery's involvement in several national and international research programmes, including examining the "Interoperability of Instrumentation and Digital Documentation" in the IPERION-HS (H2020) project and developing a new Data Management Plan for the new E-RIHS ERIC within the E-RIHS IP (Horizon Europe) project. Currently, he represents the National Gallery in the new ECHOES (Horizon Europe) project, contributing to the development of the ECCCH.He also managed the National Gallery's involvement in the SSHOC (H2020) project (https://sshopencloud.eu/) and served as the principal investigator on an AHRC-funded project developing practical applications for IIIF (https://iiif.io) as part of the UKRI’s Arts and Humanities Research Council, Towards a National Collection programme.
