Meeting title:

Setting up the disciplinary collaboration platform for RDA

A short introduction describing the activities and the scope of the group:

As the number of discipline-specific groups in RDA increases, so is the need for improving the level of coordination between them. Today, more than 20 RDA Interest Groups represent their respective scientific communities of practice in the wider RDA ecosystem.

This needs for better coordination of the disciplinary groups was first described at the SciDataCon (RDA P8) and further described in a subsequent publication (Genova, F. et al., (2017). Building a Disciplinary, World‐Wide Data Infrastructure. Data Science Journal. 16, p.16. DOI: http://doi.org/10.5334/dsj-2017-016). Building on these first steps, a group of disciplinary IGs co-chairs organised a first BoF at P9 in Barcelona.

At that meeting we identified the vision, mission and potential first tasks of a new group, which aims at becoming a focal point of disciplinary engagement with RDA and provide the space and mechanisms for better interplay between scientific communities and RDA outputs/products.
