Meeting title:

Interest Group on Chemistry Research Data

A short introduction describing the activities and the scope of the group:

The Chemistry Research Data Interest Group have been engaging the expert community to explore needs and solutions to facilitate research data and information exchange. There are an increasing number of use cases for interoperable technologies globally across chemistry sectors and other disciplines who rely on chemical data. Key challenges include machine-processable chemical representation, the universal language of chemistry not so universally represented; machine accessible chemical terms, definitions and units; validation of minimum file formats for chemical characterization data; and developing infrastructure and services for depositing chemical data packages. We are keen to bring these challenges to the RDA expert community for insight on best practices for domain repository functionality and sustainability, implementing domain metadata in DOI schema, PIDs for instruments and institutions, and provisioning digital documentation components and workflows. This session will present on projects in progress, including extensions to InChI (International Chemical Identifier), the Gold Book of Chemical Terminology, and proposals for a machine accessible cheminformatics handbook and a spectra data repository.
