23 September 2015- Working Meeting Session 3 - 15:30 -17:00
Session Agricultural Data Interest Group
“Results of the IGAD Pre-Meeting RDA P6: moving forward”
Taking into consideration of the IGAD work so far and particularly the issues that emerged at the RDA P5, the IG now approaches RDA P6 intending to use the opportunity to enlarge the group and focus on current issues and challenges of the research data management in agriculture. For that, and as suggested by those that shared the discussions at the IGAD meeting in San Diego, a pre-meeting is proposed to be organized to show case, discuss and foresee possible linkages with other IG and WG in RDA. The IGAD at RDA P6 particularly will aim at bringing out specific problems relating to all aspects of agriculture data with an aim to build interest among the members to work towards concrete solutions. Important initiatives and organizations such as INRA, GODAN, CIARD, CGAIR, UNFAO, CYMMIT among others will be represented.
The work of the Wheat Data Interoperability Working Group will be presented in a Joint Session. IGAD also solicits interest of the community in proposing new working groups related to agricultural data.

[1] As a recommendation from RDA P5, IGAD is organizing a pre-meeting from 21st to 22th of September (at INRA HQ, Paris) to show case, discuss and also foresee linkages with other IG and WG in RDA. In this pre-meeting IGAD members will dedicate 1and ½ days for intensive discussions and interactions. Towards this objective it is proposed to organize four discussion groups around the following topics:
1.) Assess and find ways to increase participation from universities, government and research organizations in the Agricultural sector worldwide
2.) Situation and requirements to meet Open Access and Research Data Policies in Agriculture
3.) Increase data access and availability (formats, users)
4.) Interoperability (policies, tools, taxonomies, standards)
The conclusions of this pre-meeting will be brought to the 6th RDA Plenary Session during the IGAD Session by the chairs of each discussion group. The end objective of these deliberations is to be able:
i. to identify the most important topics for WG to work on
ii. to forge collaborations among the members
iii. to leverage and use the RDA platform to function, report and plan outreach of the results.
[2] A workshop on big data needs and requirements in the area of food and agriculture, promoted by the H2020 project “Big Data Europe” (BDE) will take place on the 22th during the IGAD Pre-meeting at INRA.
