Subject: [globalwaterinformation] new version of Water Data Portals
Dear Colleagues, With the help of my scientific assistant, Marianne Leuzinger, version 3 of the Water Data Portals list is now available on the Open Science Framework (https://osf.io/8mn3q/). The specific improvements are:
(1) The list is in Excel (instead of Word) to allow sorting on column entries (note that a pdf version is also posted)
(2) Page names are distinguished from site owners to allow searching on either
(3) Additional qualifiers for pages/links have been included
(4) Information is provided Indicating whether page/links are machine searchable and/or the available formats for data download
Since Eawag plays only a minor role in supporting one of the portals on this list, I am now planning to contact some of the major players in the hope of encouraging others to become engaged in (or even take on the leadership) of this project.
I hope that some of you will be interested in promoting at least the cross-referencing of water data portals and maybe even working up to a “portal of portals” that is more than an Excel file.
Best regards, Janet
PS to colleagues who are NOT receiving this via the email list for the Research Data Alliance (RDA) Global Water Information Interest Group (GWI IG) – If this is of interest to you, please join the RDA and its GWI IG. See: https://www.rd-alliance.org/get-involved/individual-membership.html
PS to Jeremy, Anik and Kala – see you in Stockholm soon
