The first part of our session (presentations) will connect attendees with ongoing VSSIG, RDA, and community activities involving Vocabularies and Semantic Services. Brief presentations will describe the latest progress for particular projects, and how to engage related communities in RDA.

The last part of the session will engage the audience in identifying, defining, and prioritizing evaluation techniques for choosing terms and ontologies. This activity has been under development as part of the VSSIG for several plenary meetings, and seeks to expand input and participation from a wider range of community members. We are especially interested in capturing and leveraging insights from new and local meeting attendees who can provide unique perspectives on these challenges.

Target audience

* Anyone (including other RDA groups) interested in developing or using vocabularies, ontologies, and semantic services
* People who are struggling to understand what semantic resources are available and how to choose among them
* Those with insight about multilingual challenges in working with semantic services

Group Activities and Scope

VSSIG seeks to develop community-based recommendations on approaches to publication of controlled vocabularies on the web. Currently, the group is participating in the I-ADOPT project and working on rubrics for evaluating terms and ontologies for adoption. As more and more community-based vocabulary/standards/metadata WGs are formed within RDA, the VSSIG aims to assist in communications between these groups to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and reduce unnecessary duplication of effort.

VSSIG was established in 2015. It has produced the following deliverables:

VSSIG also serves as the home of the Evaluations for Choosing Terms and Vocabularies Task Group, which is active.
