Case Statement:

Status: Recognised & Endorsed

Structural Biology (SB) is concerned with the determination of the three-dimensional (3D) structures of individual biomacromolecules (proteins and nucleic acids), and with those of complexes and higher order structures formed by association of these individual components. The ultimate goal of SB is to understand the mode of action of these biological nano machines, based on their static 3D structures, their dynamic characteristics, and the ways in which they interact both with other macromolecules and with small ligands such as drugs and agrochemicals. SB contributes to society by supporting a range of applications including drug design, crop improvement, and engineering of enzymes of industrial significance.

Report on data life cycle

Hi,
The Horizon 2020 project "West-Life" recently prepared a report on the Life Cycle of Structural Biology Data.
I propose that the Structural Biology Interest Group of the RDA works to improve this report, and then meets to adopt it as an RDA output during the plenary meeting in April 2017:

The draft is here:

Data Life Cycle in Structural Biology

Hi,

Discussing the "Data Life Cycle" is a way of understanding the challenges related to research data. There are general descriptions of it, but there are also specific issues in particular domains. It would seem useful to discuss the life cycle of structural biology data, as a way to assess where we are and what challenges we have.

There is a early draft of a report here:

Last chance to request a meeting space at RDA Plenary 6

Dear Chris & Antonio,
The deadline for RDA Plenary 6 breakout session (23-25 Sept 2015)
application is fast approaching. You have until 20th June 2015 to submit
your request for a meeting space in Paris -

Structural Biology Interest Group Update

Structural Biology (SB) is concerned with the determination of the three-dimensional (3D) structures of individual biomacromolecules (proteins and nucleic acids), and with those of complexes and higher order structures formed by association of these individual components. Researchers in SB currently use a wide array of different techniques; the true integration of these diverse data as close as possible to the experimental level is the next challenge of "integrated SB".
