Meeting objectives

We will run an informative and interactive session, aimed at discussing how to best shape recommendations for a fair academic recognition of open science activities. The discussion will be based on the results of a survey conducted by a sub-group of the RDA-SHARC IG. The objectives will be:

  • To present & discuss some relevant results from the RDA-SHARC survey regarding awareness of Open Science activities, existing & expected reward systems in such activities, in particular for sharing activities.

  • To identify challenges and opportunities to adopting open science based rewarding pathways

  • To help guide future SHARC recommendations and implementations.

Meeting presenters

Hanna Shmagun, KISTI, South Korea; Florencia Grattarola, Biodiversidata, Uruguay; Christopher Erdmann, M.J. Fox Foundation, USA; Anne Cambon-Thomsen , Mogens Thomsen, Laurence Mabile, University of Toulouse III, FR

  • Short introduction to the RDA-SHARC group

  • Presentation of some survey results potentially relevant for paving the way to academic recognition of open science activities

  • Focus on the reported existing rewarding processes or initiatives/tools: and how to leverage them (E.g., how to develop and maintain a global registry/information sharing platform of existing initiatives rewarding open science?)

  • Collective discussion with the audience (using brainstorming techniques) on mechanisms to enable some of the recommended open science rewarding paths, on how to overcome obstacles, and on the best ways to shape recommendations towards various actors of the Research ecosystem.

The session will be hybrid. Presentations and chairing of the session (on site audience discussion; online chat / verbal Q&A / collaborative  meeting notes / meeting minutes) will be shared by several members of the RDA-SHARC survey’s group.

Short Group Status

The RDA-SHARC interest group is an interdisciplinary group set up to unpack and improve crediting and rewarding mechanisms in the data/resource sharing process. The main goals are to foster the implementation of rewarding paths and encourage the adoption of data sharing activities-related criteria in the research evaluation process at the institutional, national and European/international levels.
