Case Statement:

Status: Recognised & Endorsed

The proposed Research Data Alliance – CODATA Working Group on Legal Interoperability of Research Data (RDA-CODATA WG), will be established to address and promote the following objectives:

  • Define legal interoperability of research data and articulate why it is important for data interoperability and reuse.
  • Document and analyze up to four case studies in the areas of geoscience, biodiversity research, social sciences, and humanities of legal interoperability solutions in interdisciplinary and international contexts.
  • Develop and publish core principles and guidelines of best practices through which legal interoperability can be achieved, and link to related information resources online.
  • Work with key stakeholder groups to get the core principles and guidelines of best practices adopted.
  • Generally promote better understanding and greater use by the stakeholder groups in the research community of the agreed approaches to legal interoperability of research data, focused on highlighting and enabling better integration and reuse of such data.

Re: AW: [rda-legalinterop-ig] Are we having a telco today?

BTW, everyone, the session proposal for Barcelona is online at:

Suggestions still welcome, esp. If someone wants to give one of the proposed talks.

Are we having a telco today?

Also from me: Many thanks to Bob for submitting the application!!
Sorry for being silent so long.
Things have been a bit tense on my side because of several projects overlapping.

Legal interoperability in commercial setting

I am starting a new thread for you question. Please always start a new thread for a new topic instead of using an existing thread with a completely different subject line.
Now, back to your question—
What do you think is unique about a commercial setting that would make the issue of legal interoperability different?
What exactly do you mean by "a strictly commercial setting"? And, is there any significance in your use of the "strictly" qualifier?

AW: [rda-legalinterop-ig] [rda-legalinterop-ig] anybody out there

Dear All,
I think we will not have a call today L
Had we agreed when to resume next year?
I would be available on the 13th but of course you could start on the 6th.
Any preferences?
Regards
Christoph

Re: [rda-legalinterop-ig] RDA Legal Interoperability - CALL next Friday- 16 December ...

Good morning Gail.
Christoph and I have been trying as well, without any success. This looks like a doomed call!
I have an issue that I would like to bring up with the group, which might be a distraction, but might also be a good case study. It is very political, though. ;-)

[rda-legalinterop-ig] legal requirements concerning ownership of open science infrastructures

Dear All,
During our last conference call I promised to write a few sentences about what I have in mind when I talk about possible requirements of infrastructures in order to qualify as open science infrastructures.
The basic thinking behind this is, that I would like to see as much research publications and research data freely available - permanently.
Our principles focus on research data, not on the infrastructures which are holding them.
There is one “in-between”: database protection.
