Thanks to all those able to make the RDA Professionalising Data Stewardship IG session at RDA 19.
The session heard from a number of the task groups with updated on the various outputs of the Interest Group as well as from the EOSC Task Force on Data Stewardship Curricula and Career Paths. Particular highligts were:

The Models of Data Stewardship TG have now released their output dataset from the ‘models of data stewarship’ survey run last November. See the group’s Zenodo community: https://zenodo.org/communities/rda-pds-ig/.  The intiial finds report will be coming soon! Watch this space.
The Research landscape of data stewardship training TG shared their progress on their landscape report and are inviting community feedback
Data Steward Career Tracks TG released a survey: https://bit.ly/DSCareerTracks  open for 3 months to understand current and future career perspectives

Breakout discussions looked to explore 4 questions:

What RDA outputs would be useful given the current state?

    What collaboration opportunities exist?

What is achievable over the next 18 months?

Who will contribute time and/or lead effort(s) over the next 18 months?

The feedback from the breakouts highlights that:

There continue to be new and emerging data stewardship services – the work of the IG remains relevant to help progress the professionalising of data stewardship

The IG has some great outputs already, but there’s a need to bring these strands together and help others to discover and make use of them

As outputs mature there is a need to ensure their level of authority needs to be clear to the wider community (RDA official outputs have a process that needs to be followed to give them further credence)

RSE research software engineers – technological side needs emphasis – could ‘Research technology professionals’ work as a broader term also encompassing data stewards?

Slides and video will be made available soon, but here’s a brief summary.
This was, though, the first part of a global conversation by the IG also looking at the next phase of activitiy for the IG… this continues each week on our active Slack workspace (contact one of the co-chairs for an invite!) and in particular this Thursday as part of the RDA-US webinar series  – we hope to see more of you join us and provide your valued input:
