Bit preservation - background

The original idea for this came from the iDCC conference in Amsterdam in 2013 - basically "a cooperative approach to cloud storage". It has since grown with the experience of operating and maintaining 100PB bit stores. The idea would be to agree on the basic functionality, services and interfaces for individual bit stores, as well as federated stores to offer a higher level of functionality.
