This meeting serves to start the work of the re-activated National Data Services (NDS) IG. It will start work on two objectives:

1. Arrive at and consolidate a common understanding of the scope of national data services. To this end this first meeting will also serve to establish the degree to which a definition of NDS is seen as desirable. To facilitate discussion the meeting seeks to provide input in the form of two or more presentations that will illustrate a potential scope for the group.
2. Initialize the dialogue with other groups on GORC (GORC II WG in particular). A presentation will introduce the process for designing a useful mode for collaboration on the GORC IM for NDS. Considerations for interoperability and working together are important for NDS organizations and the GORC IM  therefore is helpful for NDS developers and other interested parties. The meeting will discuss which forms of interaction with the proposed GORC II WG would be useful.

This session builds on previous BOF sessions at P22 and P23, which determined that there is an interest to restart the RDA National Data Services IG, given a number of new NDS that have emerged around the globe. Based on a positive consensus (by groups from Australia, Canada, France, Japan and South Africa) the second meeting began working on a draft for the IG. During this  process, additional  countries (Netherlands, Germany) joined in. Three co-chairs were recruited, intentionally spanning Australia, Europe, and North America.

The Statement of Work identifies a forum for exchange as one central objective in the much evolved landscape of NDS since the end of the previous group. It also recognizes the GORC IM as a promising framework for structuring the work of the IG.
