Next steps for GORC WGs and looking towards 2025
Hi all,
As 2024 comes to a close, I would like to thank everyone for their support for the GORC IM WG. With our V1.0 of the model and report in October 2023, we pivoted to focusing on adoption use cases and learning from those experiences to release V1.1 of the model in October 2024, an RDA endorsed recommendation. We’ve discussed what the next steps should be and really honed in on our plans for a fresh GORC working group to start in 2025: The GORC International Implementations WG (GORC II WG).
You’ll have noticed the GORC IM WG is labelled as “maintaining deliverables” right now. We won’t be having any more GORC IM WG meetings, and you can see our last meeting at P23 in our collaborative rolling notes (as well as the other 36 meetings we’ve had since June 2021). We have submitted the request for the GORC II WG RDA page, and will submit the statement of work in early January 2025. I still encourage you to leave suggestions and comments on the statement of work between now and 6 January 2025 before it goes for community comment! Our goal is to have the first GORC II WG meeting at P24, where we’ll start our discussions with determining types of commons and solidifying task group and task force membership, timelines, and activities. I am also happy to share that the GORC II WG has been approved for facilitation support from RDA TIGER, and we look forward to working with them.
Once the GORC II WG page is active, I will post here encouraging everyone interested in continuing the GORC work to become a member. While myself and the GORC co-chairs may post here on occasion afterwards, the main activity will move to the GORC II WG and the GORC IG pages.
Lastly, we wish you happy holidays and new year! I hope you enjoy your winter / summer holidays, and I look forward to working with you in 2025.
Sincerely,
CJ, on behalf of the GORC co-chairs
