The FAIR Supporting Resources Working Group (FSR-WG) will develop an RDA Recommendation on how combinations of FAIR Supporting Resources (FSR), including standards, tools, templates, services and practices, that together define a FAIR implementation should be described, represented and shared. The Recommendation will support consistent documentation, comparison, reuse and cross domain alignment of FAIR implementation approaches.

Many FAIR Supporting Resources already exist, but they are described in different ways, distributed across separate collections and often difficult to compare, combine and reuse. Communities also use different terms, typologies and technical representations to document how FAIR is implemented in practice.

Within 18 months, the Working Group will bring together existing approaches and develop a shared framework for documenting FAIR Supporting Resources and their use in FAIR implementations. The work will focus on:

1. Analysing existing collections, typologies, documentation and application approaches
2. Agreeing on common definitions and a shared typology
3. Defining minimum and type specific metadata
4. Agreeing on interoperable and machine readable representations
5. Compiling recommendations for alignment and adoption 

The main outcome will be an RDA Recommendation describing a common approach for representing and sharing FAIR Supporting Resources. Supporting outputs will include a comparison of existing approaches, cross mappings between typologies and metadata schemas, metadata requirements, a decision support tree, practical examples and adoption guidance.

The Working Group will not create a comprehensive new catalogue of all FAIR Supporting Resources. It will instead provide a shared structure that existing collections, registries, communities and infrastructures can adopt and use.
