Group Activities and Scope

The idea of forming an ESES Data Community of Practice was first suggested in 2023. An interest meeting was held on 6 February 2023 with an initial set of recommended topics and statements of support captured.  Additional feedback on the importance and challenges of the new Community of Practice was captured at both P20 (March 2023) and P21 (October 2023) as a topic during the ESIP/RDA Earth, Space, and Environment Sciences IG sessions. The Statement of Work was developed during P22 with final review during P23.  The Statement of Work was submitted for review and endorsement in early 2025 and accepted.

Short Group Status

The Earth, Space, and Environmental Sciences Data Community of Practices Statement of Work (SoQ) was endorsed in 2025 and has participated RDA plenaries as follows.

  1. P23 Costa Rica (November 2024):  Introducing the Earth, Space, and Environmental Science Community of Practice
  2. P24 Virtual Plenary (May 2025): (Calling Interested Parties in Earth and Environmental Data and Research to a new COP) we substantially revised the SoW and have resubmitted it.
  3. P25  Brisbane (Oct. 2025, part of IDW): Determining what the priorities are for the ESESD COP.
