Wiki consolidation / merge

06 Oct 2014

Dear all,
As I already announced before the Amsterdam plenary, I want to
consolidate our two wiki installations and take the prototype offline.
Therefore, I went through the terms which are already defined in the
prototype, but *not* in the current and active version of the wiki.
Surprisingly, there are still 102 (!) terms defined in the prototype for
which we don't have an entry in the current wiki so far.
The question is now how we should go on. I already offered to merge the
prototype wiki into the current one. But some of the prototype terms are
absolete now, some can be merged into others etc.
I would like to ask the DFT group to take a look at the 102 terms and
decide what to do with them: I can copy them over to the new wiki, merge
them into existing definitions or get rid of them. Theres als a question
how we should mark these terms: in the prototype, there was no "Scope"
field. Now we could add another scope ("DFT Term Definition Prototype"
?) to the wiki?
To remember, here is the link to the prototype again:
http://smw-proto.esc.rzg.mpg.de/index.php/Main_Page
And here the link to the current version of the wiki:
http://smw-rda.esc.rzg.mpg.de/index.php/Main_Page
And here is now the list of the 102 terms:

    Thomas,
Thanks for the follow up on this Wiki consolidation / merge issue. The
    original prototype was used
not only to test the application but to harvest ideas for vocabulary and
thus we see a large list of terms
in comparison to the later, focused list.
I'm in favor of saving this as input to discussion. After all concepts like
    "

    Interoperability" are
central to the data sharing view and it would be nice to have a place to
hold the term even if it
is not going to be defined as tightly as some implementation ideas.
There are some concepts that we may get to define more formally as some WGs
    proceed.
    An example might be "

    Citation Metadata"
    >

I would vote for this to be the way to keep the information. It is just in
the "scope" of the DFT term prototype.

    Hi Gary,
OK, so I started to copy over the entries from the prototype wiki to the
    new one.
With the new functionality, some pages can be merged: for example,
"Active Collection" and "Active Collection 2" are now on one page, with
    two separate definitions.
All the terms I'm copying over are getting the scope "DFT Term
Definition Prototype " and the status "In Discussion".
The old category system was much more complexe than what we have now.
So, all terms where we don't have a category so far, are now in the
category "Uncategorized". Someone have to go through that and check them.
I copied over already about 20 terms and will go on with that the next
days. I'm deleting the copied pages from the wiki to avoid any confusion.
    Best,
    Tom
