FAIR4RS WG updates

14 Oct 2020
Groups audience:

Dear all,

We hope you've had a good time during the last few months, on vacation and/or working intensely on projects.
We also would like to welcome all the new members since our last update, and provide avenues for new engagement.
Our group members have been very active and we would like you to become aware of our recent activities.

- The FAIR 4 Research Software (FAIR4RS) WG status became "Recognised & Endorsed" in September 2020.
You are all invited to read the revised Case Statement and look at our timeline and milestones: https://www.rd-alliance.org/node/69317/case-statement
We are open to your comments and suggestions during the life of the WG, which runs through March 2022.

- Subgroup activities. The FAIR4RS WG is running 4 subgroup activities https://www.rd-alliance.org/groups/fair-4-research-software-fair4rs-wg
Many of you have provided and continue to provide valuable input into the objectives. We recognise and appreciate your time and effort!
For those new to the group and those who wish to be updated on the results, we invite you to attend the RDA Virtual Plenary 16 or VP16.
We will have a live session at VP16 to update everyone on the subgroups' progress and to discuss how to move forward to achieve our first deliverable.
Our session is in Breakout 6 (check the time in your zone), more info on the VP16 Program https://rd-alliance.org/rdas-16th-plenary-meeting-programme.
If you are unable to join our VP16 session, we are also running a similar session at SORSE the week after.

- The steering committee (SC) has 9 representatives, 5 of which are group chairs [Michelle Barker, Daniel S. Katz, Leyla Garcia, Neil Chue Hong, Paula Andrea Martinez (Chairs)], and Morane Gruenpeter, Fotis Psomopoulos, Jennifer Harrow and Mateusz Kuzak. The 9 SC members have steadily worked together to convene the WG from its inception in March 2020. In October 2020, Mateusz Kuzak stepped down from the SC and suggested Carlos Martinez (Community Manager, the Netherlands eScience Center) to be his replacement in the SC. The SC approved the change without any objections and would like to take this opportunity to invite any member of the WG to let us know if they also wish to volunteer their time and to become part of the SC, to lead and oversee the completion of our milestones.

We welcome your comments, suggestions and input by replaying here or in any of our activities documents. Have a look at our planed engagement meetings https://github.com/force11/FAIR4RS/blob/master/CommunityEngagement.md and our SC minutes https://github.com/force11/FAIR4RS/tree/master/meetings/2020 on our public Github repository. We look forward to hearing from you all.

With kind regards,
-Paula Andrea Martinez
FAIR4RS Chair on behalf of the FAIR4RS Steering Committee
