    Dear all,
The Software Source Code Identification WG session took place during the virtual RDA Plenary 15 March 27th with 28 attendees (including presenters). The session was divided into 3 parts and included an activity with 4 breakout rooms.

The slides from the presentations are available online and the session has been recorded, and will be available in a few days.

The first part was an introduction to the WG and its upcoming outputs, which was presented by Daniel S. Katz.

The second part, a presentation of a few identification use cases, was presented by Roberto Di Cosmo.

The third part was the presentation of a cornucopia of identifier schemas:

Software Heritage ID and HAL-ID – presented by Roberto Di Cosmo

DOI – presented by Martin Fenner

    ARK – presented John Kunze

    ASCL-ID – Daniel S. Katz presented Alice Allen’s slide

RRID – presented by Anita Bandrowski

SwMath Identifiers and Wikidata entities – presented by Moritz Schubotz

During the session, we had a small written activity to add a use case to our session notes. After the presentations, we divided the participants into 4 breakout rooms to each specify and document a different use case following a template (including a use case summary, goal, scenario, target for the identifier, granularity level, examples and matching with identifier schemas). The use cases were:

    Breakout room 1: reproducibility

    Breakout room 2: access

    Breakout room 3: get credit

Breakout room 4: describe (search and find)

It appears clearly from the discussion that there is not a single solution that fits all use cases.

The next step for this Working Group is to work on an output that clarifies and harmonizes the usage of different identifiers. This type of output would be a great step forward for the community.
