Thanks to everyone who was able to make the call today, despite the
last minute telecon glitch. It was certainly interesting to talk with
Carrie Selzer of NSF, Mark Thorley of NERC, and Bob Samors of the
Belmont Forum about plans for the BF e-Infrastructure project and
potential collaboration with our group. I will try to circulate the
slide presentation that Mark Thorley presented in
In brief, the Belmont Forum is looking to existing groups to help
address data management and sharing issues associated with the BF
activities, which involve multi-national research efforts funded by
the many science agencies around the world that support global change
research. They are potentially interested in working with us to
provide guidance on legal issues such as licensing, privacy, and
liability. Ideally, we could develop a plan for moving ahead in the
next few months, in time to provide inputs in September for the next
BF plenary in November. Possibilities include working on a joint case
study/use case, organizing a meeting on key issues, and/or
participating in a policy advisory group that they are thinking of
    establishing.
The following Google doc has been set up to exchange ideas on this:

Gail has already started populating it!
Those of you who were on the call should feel free to comment or add
    more information.
We will need to aside some time in Barcelona to discuss this. And
speaking of which, we do need to pin down a time for a side meeting in
Barcelona. I will send out a doodle poll with some potential times
    shortly.
    Cheers, Bob
