Dear PIDINST colleagues,
A small Japanese group translated the PIDINST white paper into Japanese.
A WG blonging to RDUF (Research Data Utilization Forum) are learning how tangible research objects
(including research instruments, materials, bio samples, etc.) can be identified in digital and referred from
not only their lab or institute but also the world.
Now, the the translated materials are maintained on github forked from the original repository,
https://github.com/takaakiaoki/pidinst-white-paper
where our working results are locale/ja/LC_MESSAGES
RtD is also available at https://pindinst-white-paper.readthedocs.io/ja/latest/white-paper/index....
Any comments and recommendations to our next action is very welcome.
Especially, I am considering how to relate out outputs to the original work.
Regards,
Takaaki AOKI, Nagoya Univ.

Dear Takaaki,
That's awesome!
You might be interested to learn that we are aiming to finalize
version 1.0 of the document and submit it to RDA for endorsement as a
supporting output. We are almost there, but progress is unfortunately
slow.
I would suggest that we do this exercise first and discuss options on
how to integrate your Japanese version in a second step. It should be
possible to integrate multiple translations into a single Read the
Docs site, I found some documentation [1] on it although I didn't read
through that detail yet. So it seems we could integrate your version
into https://docs.pidinst.org/ if you like.
Note that it is our plan anyway that this should be a living document
that would be amended and extended as needed even after we get the
formal endorsement by RDA.
In any case, you might want to come to one of our monthly group
meetings to present your project there. The next meeting will be the
1rst of March, 08:00 UTC / 09:00 CET / 17:00 JST
Best regards,
Rolf

Dear Rolf,
Thank you very much for your kind response and suggestions.
If possible, we would like to collaborate to maintain our Japanese translation as well as the original.
I suppose there are two steps to merge our Japanese(ja) outputs to the original.
Step 1. Merge PIDINST documents on RtD
As far as I can manage, I set up en and ja documents on my RtD according to
https://docs.readthedocs.io/en/stable/localization.html
Aoki's private RtD has two projects
English (pindinst-white-paper-en project):
https://pindinst-white-paper-en.readthedocs.io/
connected to 'develop' branch of https://github.com/takaakiaoki/pidinst-white-paper
Japanese (pindinst-white-paper project):
https://pindinst-white-paper.readthedocs.io/
connected to 'develop-ja' branch of https://github.com/takaakiaoki/pidinst-white-paper
Now, Japanese project is set as translated project of English project, so
https://pindinst-white-paper.readthedocs.io/ is redirected to
https://pindinst-white-paper-en.readthedocs.io/ja/latest
Thus, the RtD of original PIDINST could show the Japanese translation ...
Create a new project for Japanese translation and connect to Aoki's develop-ja branch,
and set this project as a translated project of the original one.
Step 2. Merge on Github
It would be a simple solution that the original repository makes a 'develop-ja' branch,
and then I would submit a pull-request on it.
Regards,
Takaaki Aoki.

Dear colleague,
Unfortunately, the former RtD (in Japanese) project, https://pindinst-white-paper.readthedocs.io/
was missied after linking under the English document project.
Thus, the relationship between English(original) and Japanese (Translated) were switched.
And now,
https://pindinst-white-paper.readthedocs.io/ja/latest/
is the main project connected to 'develop-ja' branch of https://github.com/takaakiaoki/pidinst-white-paper
https://pindinst-white-paper.readthedocs.io/en/latest/
is the translated one connected to 'develop' branch of https://github.com/takaakiaoki/pidinst-white-paper
Sorry for confusing,
Takaaki Aoki.

HI everyone,
Thanks from me too to Aoki -- it's great to have the Japanese translation!
I thought I'd mention that along with a few others I've been involved in establishing a new RDA Interest Group, called 'Working with PIDS in Tools'.
The IG has been officially endorsed by the RDA council, you can find the IG charter here. On top of that, we already have our session accepted in the upcoming RDA Gothenburg program.
It would be great to interact with the pidinst group as the Working with PIDS in Tools IG gets going. I'll be happy to chat about that by email, on a call, and/or in person in Gothenburg.
Best regards,
Rory
