RE: RDA Transportation WG Case Statement

Hi all,
If you are interested in transportation research data, please contribute to the proposed RDA Transportation WG case statement. Right now, the organizers seek to understand the vision of the transportation research community, needs, and proposed mission for the WG. The original deadline was today, but as no one has yet contributed, the deadline will be extended to Dec 2. I’d like to keep things moving, especially to be able to meet up and possibly present at relevant upcoming meetings (TRB 2017 in January, RDA Plenary 9 in April).
Have ideas for the needs of the transportation research community but don’t want to use the google doc? Feel free to call or email me to chat.
Many thanks.

Subject: RDA Transportation WG Case Statement
Dear colleagues,
As members of the RDA Geospatial and Quality of Urban Life Interest Groups, the proposed Transportation Data Working Group wants your expertise and interest from project initation. If you’d like to shape RDA’s engagement on transportation data, please contribute to the case statement draft for the proposed Transportation Data WG (more information below). If you wish to join the proposed leadership team or contribute in other ways, please be in touch with me via email or phone (contact info at end of email).
Many thanks!

Request for engagement:
Thank you for your interest in initiating the RDA Transportation Working Group. I have set up the framework for the WG case statement. I now request your help identifying the vision, problem, mission and stakeholders for the group that will guide our work.
The case statement is the organizing document for an RDA WG. It describes the research case, business case and capacity of the group to contribute something useful to stakeholders during a focused period of 12-18 months. I am leading the development of the case statement for the proposed RDA transportation data WG. Please see the draft of the Transportation WG case statement.
To begin the drafting of the case statement in earnest, today I am seeking your input to identify the vision, problem/gap, mission of the working group. Your input is requested in the green-highlighted sections of the draft, also outlined below.
Vision: What would the world look like if transportation data use was optimal?
Problem: Where are the gaps in current transportation data use?
Mission: What must the Transportation WG do to reach the vision?
I suggest we add thoughts on the vision, problem and mission by Monday, Nov 28th. Below I have copied the milestones for completion of the WG case statement. Any comments on the milestones or timeline for the development of the case statement are also appreciated.
Please add your ideas to the google doc by Monday, Nov. 28th. Many thanks for your contributions to this working group.
