Topics: data and knowledge preservation adding value to data issues related to policy etc (very) long term issues
PV2020 – the 10th in the series – focuses on the long-term preservation of data and knowledge, together with the process of adding value to preserved data.
We invite you to submit abstracts (up to 1 page, PDF format, by “Abstract registration deadline”) for oral presentations or posters (see “Submission Guidelines” below). Submissions that are accepted will then have the possibility to upload papers, the guideline for which is between 5 and 8 pages (by “Submission deadline”).
Notification to the authors will be by 28th February and Registration ends on 9th April 2020.
(As is customary, at least one person from each accepted contribution must register for and be present at the conference).
In contrast to other conferences and workshops on related topics, the PV series has a particular focus on scientific data, often from large scale, multi-national facilities. However, one should not forget that at least a number of the challenges faced are shared with many other disciplines, as is the need for effective collaboration and sharing of ideas and even solutions.
The conference will consist of the following sessions:
• Session 1: Ensuring long-term data and knowledge preservation (the “P” in PV);
• Session 2: Adding value to data and facilitation of data use (the “V” in PV);
• Session 3: Short – medium term issues related to policy, technology, guidelines, FAIR / TRUST principles, certification;
• Session 4: (Very) long term issues.

With respect to previous conferences in this series, and whilst maintaining the overall thrust, additional goals for PV2020 include:
• Attracting more scientific communities
• Broadening information exchange, sharing of experiences, tools and even services
• Keeping in step with (or ahead of) funding agencies / policy makers in their push for Long Term Data Preservation and Open Data
The conference will consist of plenary and parallel sessions, together with ample time for networking over coffee, lunch and during an “ice-breaking event” on the first evening of the conference. The posters will be on display in the area where these events take place.
A conference dinner will take place on the second evening and is included in the conference fee, as are all of the above refreshment breaks.
Tentatively, a conference fee of CHF 300 is envisaged (to be confirmed once the above details have been worked out).
Submission Guidelines
All papers should be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The following paper categories are welcome:
• Full papers describing recent and / or novel work for oral presentation (parallel or in some cases plenary)
• Posters that will be described in a “minute-madness” session at the beginning of the conference and displayed in the coffee area and during lunch breaks.
In both cases, author details, a brief abstract and a 1-page description (PDF) are required and will be reviewed by the Program Committee (see https://indico.cern.ch/event/838830/page/17802-committees).
• Although not yet confirmed, a session on lightning talks may be held on the final day for which a very light-weight process will be initiated once the main abstract review process has completed. These may cover developments that are too new for either a paper or poster.
