FW: [rda-dphe-ig] Working Group on Metadata // Draft Case Statement

13 Apr 2015

From my colleague Danah Tonne:
Dear Brandon, dear all,
Rainer and me, we looked over the case statement for the WG. Thanks a lot
for the preparation. It comes clear that the WG addresses an important
topic for the communities and for RDA as there are also other communities
with similar problems, e.g. RDA/CODATA Materials Data, Infrastructure &
A couple of comments have been already discussed in the last virtual
Use Cases:
Use cases are currently a hot topic in RDA. A couple of WGs and IG are
collecting use cases: e.g. IG Data Fabric, IG Metadata and IG Repository
Platforms. The question may arise if all those use case collections can be
somehow coordinated and benefit from each other. Thus we would suggest
inserting a small sentence of possible exchange with those use case
Adoption plan:
This is a crucial chapter for a WG case statement. For the review TAB
expects at least a list of early adopters, persons or/and institutions who
are interested in the results. We would suggest recruiting these from the
list of initial members. For example DARIAH might be interested in
reviewing these results for possible integration into the community portal.
Initial membership:
It would be convenient for the review if in the list of initial members
the institutions and countries are visible. Also it would be beneficial to
include an additional non-Americas co-chair. Important questions are:
³Does the initial membership list include sufficient expertise, and
disciplinary and international representation? Are the right people
involved in the Working Group to adopt and implement? What individuals or
organizations are missing?²
I would be pleased to be part of the initial members: Danah Tonne,
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, DARIAH, Germany
Project shares:
We are currently at the DARIAH-DE project meeting. Stefan Schmunk is
leading the cluster ³Scientific Collections Research Data². We are sure
that he is interested to present DARIAH and the cluster in a future
project share.
As a representative of CLARIN we would propose Dieter van Uytvanck who is
also active in RDA.
Kind regards
