Today during our excellent project share session with Craig Dietrich of Scalar I mentioned
Authorea https://www.authorea.com/aboutus https://www.authorea.com/
It is focused on collaborative writing: "Authorea is the collaborative platform for research. Write and manage your technical documents in one place."
Alberto Pepe is a co-founder http://albertopepe.com/
and a former grad student of Chris Borgman, Info Studies, UCLA
[I was on his dissertation committee as the required member from outside his department.]
He sees Scalar as more for art/media-rich publications and Authorea for natural sciences.
Alberto and Tara McPherson of Scalar & the Vectors Journal were on a DIY Scholarly Publishing panel together at Columbia in Sept: http://library.columbia.edu/news/libraries/2014/2014-8-18-14_Research_Wi...
