Data Fabric Sessions in Tokyo

04 Mar 2016
Groups audience:

Dear Data Fabric colleagues,
the plenary in Tokyo is over and it was great although we missed many of you. We had 4 sessions:
1. In the core session we presented the new sub-page on guidelines (we can't use the term recommendations, since this is used already for the outputs of RDA groups) which is now open for discussion and comments. https://rd-alliance.org/group/data-fabric-ig/wiki/recommendations.html. We will also invite the other chairs, regional, national and community groups to contribute. So please have a look and give your comments. From time to time we will create summaries and the intention is to present a first snapshot in Denver.
2. In the core session we also spoke about components and a next step of starting to create concrete "configurations of core components" to make the next step: get something done that can cover a variety of RDA (and perhaps other accepted) components. We will create a short note about that to open the discussion very soon. An extended list of components has been created and will be uploaded to the wiki. A first question was raised on how to come to a list of "RDA-accepted" list of components. RDA outputs are set, but there are many others such as from W3c etc.
3. Very much in the same direction was the discussion about "testing and testbeds". So the interesting discussion in that session will be integrated into the note as well.
4. In the session together with the "National Data Services" group we discussed the importance of the large infrastructures in the testing efforts.
A lot of work is ahead of us and we hope that you will contribute.
best
Peter
