Dear Members of the EOSC-Future/RDA AIDV Working Group,

Today I spoke with Elif. We thought it would be best to hold our next regular monthly meeting on Monday 21 August from 14:00 to 15:30 CET (Brussels time). We would then hold our next meeting on Monday 21 September due to some travel conflicts during the first two weeks of September. We will use our usual Zoom Link (passcode 123): https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83954320774?pwd=lASnb2ihA10xtyrEnXUIgCWRE09Nzp.1&from=addon. If you do not have a calendar invitation and would like one, just send me your e-mail.

During our last meeting on Monday 6 June we agreed to move our meetings to the second Monday of each month due to Claudia’s new teaching commitments. During our meeting today, we will focus on each of the deliverables. We need to try to have the drafts in by 20 July. We can then take some time to coordinate and discuss between the different deliverables and how to strategize the publication, dissemination, and implementation of the deliverables.

The most important work we have now is to complete the deliverables.

On Monday afternoon Beijing time 4 September we will hold a two-hour session at The 7th Digital Belt and Road Conference (DBAR 2023) (4-6 September 2023), Beijing International Convention Center (BICC), Beijing, China: Session title: ‘The Role of Legal Frameworks and Ethics for Data Visitation and AI in Support of Data Sharing within the Digital Belt and Road Infrastructure for Sustainable Development’. We will invite someone from each of the deliverables to present their deliverable. Everyone should feel welcome to register for the conference to participate virtually/online. Follow the link above.

We also have a session titled ‘Open Science Cloud Policy and Governance’ on Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 12:30 noon on at the International Symposium on the Open Science Cloud (ISOSC), 4-6 September 2023, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Information Plaza, Beijing, China. This is in fact the conference we would recommend the most and where I will be spending most of my time. Here too you will need to register. Follow the link above.

We will then have an hour and a half session on Thursday afternoon Beijing time 7 September at The 3rd International Forum on Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (FBAS 2023), 6-8 September 2023, Beijing International Convention Center (BICC), Beijing, China: Session titled: ‘Data and AI Policy for the Effective Governance of Big Data During Crisis Situations for Achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals’. Again, you need to register separately for this conference. Follow the link above.

On Saturday 9 September we will hold a full-day ‘An international seminar on the interface between the data and biological sciences’ at the China National GeneBank (CNGB) in Shenzhen, China. Attached is a preliminary draft outline of the programme. We should have a more complete programme in the coming days to share with you. There too you will be able to register online.

Finally, we still have as our primary focus for reporting our deliverables the session on the RDA Plenary 21 at the IDW2023 Salzburg, Austria, 23-26 October 2023 – Our session is on Tuesday 24 October at UTC 14:00 – 15:30 | CEST/AT 16:00 – 17:30 | RDA P21 Breakout Session 3: Transforming the AIDV-WG’s deliverables into horizontal actions across data disciplines, sectors, and systems: Engaging digital communities in incorporating ELSI in data and AI tools and systems for achieving the UN SDGs and real-world outcomes You can register here. Note that Early Bird registration (reduced fees) is open until Friday 15 September.

    Kind regards,

Francis (also on behalf of Elif, and Claudia)
