Dear IGAD members,
I am pleased to send you the invitation to the Interest Group in Agricultural Data (IGAD) Pre-Meeting P10 in Montreal (Canada), 17-18 September 2017. You can access the original invitation here (this document remains updated):

The Research Data Alliance (RDA) was launched as a community-driven organization in 2013 by the European Commission, the United States Government's National Science Foundation and National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the Australian Government’s Department of Innovation with the goal of building the social and technical infrastructure to enable open sharing of data.
With more than 5,400 members from 123 countries (April 2017), RDA provides a neutral space where its members can come together through focused global Working and Interest Groups to develop and adopt an infrastructure that promotes data-sharing and data-driven research, and to accelerate the growth of a cohesive data community that integrates contributors across domain, research, national, geographical and generational boundaries.
Formed in 2013, since its inception the Interest Group on Agricultural Data (IGAD) has grown in community strength to over 125 members, becoming one of the RDA’s most prominent Thematic Groups. IGAD is a domain-oriented group working on all issues related to global agriculture data. It represents stakeholders in managing data for agricultural research and innovation, including producing, aggregating and consuming data.
Beyond this IGAD promotes good practices in research with regard to data sharing policies, data management plans, and data interoperability, and it is a forum for sharing experiences and providing visibility to research and work in agricultural data. The Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN) initiative supports its partners to join IGAD and participate actively to work on open data, data interoperability and capacity development.
One of IGAD’s main roles is to serve as a platform that leads to the creation of domain-specific Working Groups. To date one successful Working Group has formed under IGAD, the Wheat Data Interoperability, and four more are in their inception phase the Rice Data Interoperability, Soil Data, AgriSemantics and On-Farm Data Sharing all playing an active role at the most recent RDA 9 in Barcelona (Spain). GODAN is actively promoting the membership of these working groups to its partners and some will function as GODAN working groups.
Till RDA Plenary Meeting 9
IGAD Pre-Meeting took place on 3-4 April during the RDA 9th Plenary. It was hosted by University of Barcelona and supported by GODAN (The Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition). At the P9, IGAD brought 110+ data experts together, from more than 35 countries and from 5 continents. The pre-meeting program was rich and covered diverse fields in particular on nine key topics: AgriSemantics, On-Farm Data Sharing, Rice and Wheat Data Interoperability, Climate/Weather Data, Soil Data Interoperability, Other crop Research Data Interoperability, Metrics and indicators in agricultural science and Capacity development in the context of research data in agriculture.
First day of the meeting was designed to provide a space for the thematic groups to present their work and accomplishment as well as briefing the audience for the next day discussions. Majority of the thematic groups are already established WGs under RDA IGAD, with the exception of “Metrics and indicators in agricultural science” and “Capacity development in the context of research data in agriculture”.
The second day focused in more intensive discussions and interactions. The groups had the morning and afternoon to review their work and discuss about their future roadmaps. At the end of the day, each group reported back to the audience. Existing working groups had the opportunity to explore if there is a need for any additional sub-topics and/or working areas. Both the first day presentations and the reporting session proved that the groups have been very active, doing an amazing job and involved many important projects over the years.
RDA IGAD has been an ever expanding community with the new topics and the partners to create more value for the agriculture. IGAD 2017 Pre-Meeting was a great addition to this goal and will continue to work towards it. The presentations and outcomes of the event are published in the Open knowledge in agricultural development (OKAD) channel on F1000Research:

Pre-meeting at RDA Plenary Meeting 10
The next pre-meeting will take place in Montreal (Canada) before the RDA Plenary Meeting 10, and will provide an opportunity to evaluate how the group has evolved during the last months, what are the latest developments and to focus on research data management and semantics. For that, and following the successful methodology applied at P9, we are organizing a pre-meeting to showcase and discuss in the context of open and research data and with special attention to rice, wheat, other crops, Agrisemantics and soil research data.
At the P10 pre-meeting, we are excited to invite participants to discuss thematic topics and cross topics, such as data representation, publishing, interoperability and discoverability (e.g. FAIR principles) and institutional approaches (e.g. north-south and south-south collaboration). Towards this objective, it is proposed to organize nine discussion groups around the following areas of interest:
- AgriSemantics
- Rice Data Interoperability
- Wheat Data Interoperability
- Other crop Research Data Interoperability
- Soil Data Interoperability
- On-Farm Data Sharing
- Metrics and indicators in agricultural science
- Climate/Weather Data
- Capacity development in the context of research data in agriculture
Plenary 10
The conclusions of this pre-meeting will be brought to the RDA Plenary Session during the Agricultural Data Interest Group Session by the chairs of each discussion group.
Participation
We are pleased to invite you to actively participate in the pre-meeting. You can be part of this event in one or more ways; based on any of the topics identified above, let us know your preferences and confirm attendance by June 15, 2017:

-
I would like to attend the meeting and participate in the discussions
We welcome your contribution and involvement in this pre-meeting.
Looking forward to meeting you in Montreal,
Co-chairs of the Interest Group on Agriculture Data (IGAD)

Dear Karna,
thanks for the invitation.
As Shaik and Mau will be probably invited by Godan, I will let them attend the meeting. Personally I have no funding for attending that one.
Best regards
Pierre

Dear IGAD members,
In addition to the last post about the Pre-Meeting at RDA P10 in Montreal (Canada), it should be noted that presentations in Spanish and Portuguese will also be considered, as long as slides are in English. This is to encourage the participation of as many representatives from South and Central America as possible.
Looking forward to another fruitful and exciting IGAD pre-meeting!
