Dear Rolf, Frank and all
It is definitely a good idea. It should be a good opportunity to disseminate PaN activities
and to get feedback from others regarding our future challenges for Data Policies
implementations all over our facilities
Regards,
Majid

Objet : [rda-rdnpnsc-ig] PaNSIG @ RDA plenary 13 in Philadelphia, US?
Dear all,
I recently had a chat with Frank Schlünzen about PaNSIG: I believe, there is some room for new activities. On the one hand, there are some things going on in other RDA groups that might be of interest for the PaN community, namely:
* Persistent Identification of Instruments WG
This group seeks to explore a community-driven solution for globally
unique identification of active instruments in the sciences. At the
last plenary P12 the group presented a first draft of a meta data
schema. At P13 it will present a second draft version of the schema
and discuss options for the implementation.
At P11, Thomas Proffen formulated the idea to build something like a
common instrument portal across facilities on top of that
infrastructure. This portal should help users to find the most
suitable instrument for their experiment.
* Physical Samples and Collections in the Research Data Ecosystem IG
At P12, in a joint session with the PID IG, there was a discussion
on establishing persistent identifiers for samples. There already
is the International Geo Sample Number (IGSN) and the idea seem to
be to broaden the scope and to accommodate samples in the sciences
in general into this system. Since I did participate in this
session, People behind this idea (Kerstin Lehnert) seemed to be
quite keen to get the PaN community involved.
* PID IG, ORCID
In the same joint session, a representative of ORCID presented
“research resources”, a new section in people’s ORCID record, see
[1] for more info. These resources may amongst others include the
access to research facilities. I believe, the original initiative
to create this came from ORNL.
On the other hand, there are some activities in the PaN community that might be of interest in the broader RDA community, such as PaNOSC and ExPaNDS.
So the question is: Shall we go for a session @ P13? This could be an opportunity for both, discussing RDA activity from our point of view and our involvement in them, but also disseminating PaN activities in the RDA community. If yes, we would need to hurry up, the call for sessions is open, deadline is on 5 January 2019.
Best regards,
Rolf
