Hoi Lisa,
In 2013 and 2014 Peter Wittenburg and myself ran an community analysis
programme where we performed site visits to many institutes and had many
short interviews (and conferences etc.) to look into typical data
management practises.

As an aside we encountered a lot of disk-on-shelf+postdoc archiving.
I hope that with the current awareness of the issues you may encounter a
more optimistic image.
(but that might just be my RDA bubble).
