Hi colleagues,
I agree with Claire that this is hot topic right now. As far as I know, there are two models of collecting data from these apps – a centralised model and a de-centralised model. The issues that Claire mentioned i.e. legal, confidentiality, data completeness, representativeness, data quality, reliability, verifiability, data ownership, data access, data openness, control, etc., are being considered when evaluating the two main models. It might be tricky to compare the two models and recommend the better without enough knowing (A LOT) more about how these apps work. The recommendations can include “a proposed ethical way” of collecting data…

Priyanka

Subject: [rdacovid19-coordination] Are tracking apps within scope?
Hello colleagues,
To what extent are tracking apps within scope of the RDA-COVID-19 WG? It’s becoming a frontier of the wild, wild west (apologies for the cultural reference). There are a lot of issues: legal, confidentiality, data completeness, representativeness, data quality, reliability, verifiability, data ownership, data access, data openness, control, etc., etc. …
Cheers,
Claire
