EOSC Future grant: IGAD CoP in Republic of Moldova

Agriculture remains the main pillar of the Moldovan economy. The country has favourable soil resources and conditions for agricultural production, with farmland covering 75 per centpercent of the country’s territory. Agriculture represents more than 16 per centpercent of the GDP and approximately 45 per centpercent of total exports. Thus, optimisation of production, trade and transport of agricultural products using research results based on FAIR, open data can bring considerable real-world benefits.

The project focuses on expanding the Improving Global Agricultural Data Community of Practice (IGAD CoP) in the Republic of Moldova to facilitate the adoption of RDA recommendations, inviting experts to join and enrich the dialogue and encouraging researchers to share their experiences.

To understand the needs of researchers in the field of research data, we developed a survey to identify the problems and challenges the researchers are facing. The responses were used to analyse the particularities and possibilities of the research community in the Republic of Moldova to align with the Open Data movement and FAIR principles. Based on the results, proposals, recommendations, and a summary article have been developed [do we have links to these?]. The research produced recommendations, suggestions, and a comprehensive article entitled “The Attitudes of Agricultural Researchers Towards Data Sharing.” A Case Study of the Republic of Moldova” [link:].

The Republican Scientific Agricultural Library, being a national information and documentation centre in agriculture, aims to strengthen its capacities and provides a support point to all the members of the agricultural scientific community of the Republic of Moldova in the field of research data management. To succeed, the library is focused on the opportunities resulting from the effective collaboration with IGAD. The aim is to organise joint activities that would bring together experts, generate knowledge and train skills in food and agriculture data. Therefore, the number of researchers from the target community as members of the RDA could be increased, as well as the number of joint open research initiatives and those who would adopt the recommendations and results of the RDA.
