Dear all,
On behalf of the co-Chairs of the proposed Health Data Interest Group (HDIG), please find some updates on the group’s work after the BoF session held at the Tokyo plenary on 1st March 2016.
This meeting followed a BoF held in Paris at P6, in September 2015, where the HDIG was encouraged to go for the RDA formal submission and review process, and a first TAB review which led to an updated charter presented during the BoF in Tokyo.
The session in Tokyo was also attended by the co-Chairs and/or members from other groups with potential link with the HDIG, such as Data Security and Trust Working Group (WGDST) and the RDA/NISO Privacy Implications of Research Data Sets WG, who were warmly invited to join the session to discuss potential overlaps and collaborations.
We are now looking forward to complete the review process by the end of June and to plan for a first meeting of the newly-instituted HDIG at the 8th RDA Plenary in Denver, in September 2016.
To succeed in the review process and actively engage in the group, some actions are needed: first of all, an updated charter has been prepared taking into account the latest recommendations and comments received during the community and the TAB review. This includes a selection of priority topics the IG will start to focus on, and a major involvement of worldwide participants in the group, as much as participants with clinical expertise.
Please, have a look at the revised Charter, now available at https://rd-alliance.org/group/health-data/case-statement/health-data.html. We would very much appreciate receiving any comments, or suggestions of editing the content within the end of August 2016, as well as further indications of potentially interested partners, which it would be worthwhile to try and engage.
We are also submitting a session proposal for the 8th RDA Plenary in Denver, in September 2016, where we would like to invite you. Preliminary information on the event can be found at https://rd-alliance.org/plenaries/rda-eighth-plenary-meeting-denver-co.

Dear Ludovica,
Good to meet you virtually!
As Edwin may have informed you, I am a pediatric cardiologist with a
strong interest in data science and AI. I am graduating from the
Stanford School of Medicine Masters program in Data Science this week
and will continue my work in AI there. I am also the founder of the
international Society for Pediatric Innovation (iSPI) and we have a
working group on data and data sharing as well as a scientific committee
on artificial intelligence. We already have 28 charter members and more
will be joining. Also, I am organizing a course as well as a textbook in
data science and AI in healthcare and medicine.
I am very interested in being part of this process you have elucidated.
Lets chat about how we can converge!

Dear Chang,
I'm really sorry for my late reply but we've been overwhelmed by the submission of a project proposal and I couldn't think about any other things!
Thank you very much for your kind reply, and for the interest you showed about being part of the process of this new Interest Group on Health Data. I'll be back to you next week with further details on our initiatives, possibly looking for your participation at the meeting in Denver next September (the date proposed for our session is saturday 17th Sept. in the morning). Your involvement in the process would really add great value to our ideas and intentions.
Best regards
