Future RDA plenaries

10 Feb 2016
Groups audience:

Dear Juan,
There is the schedule that I was referring to - admittedly still draft - when I said on the chat yesterday that there would be no plenary in Europe after Barcelona for 2 years:
https://rd-alliance.org/plenary-meetings.html
* P10 (September 2017): South America or Africa
* P11 (March 2018): North America
* P12 (September 2018): Australasia
* P13 (March 2019): Europe
* P14 (September 2019): North America
* P15 (March 2020): Africa or South America
I understand the issues of global collaboration - I have been doing it all my working life - but I think that some larger event(s) (not just WG+IG chairs meetings) are needed to bridge the gap.
(I could make a suggestion).
Cheers, Jamie

    Thanks Jamie, I had not seen this.
    As Mark said on the call, the high level approach has been to have it on an 18 month cycle: EU, NA, Elsewhere, ...
    But compared to this cycle, Paris was actually 6 months early and this has put some noise into the signal.
    Of course, looking out beyond Barcelona the schedule is just indicative.
    Suggestions (on any topic) are always welcome.
    Juan.

    Dear Juan,
    I have a suggestion that could be for the elected OAB, or just another sub-committee.
    It is related to V&E and I don’t think it has yet been done…
    It could be useful to see where all organisations have contributed to, as well as benefited from, “RDA outputs” in any form.
    It could be:
    - Contributed to: as (co-)chair, member
    - Benefited from: interested in; intend to “adopt”, have “adopted”
    I put adopted in quotes as I would include outputs such as alignment of certification procedures, ADMPs, reproducibility and other higher level things (like I am interested in :-) )
    The OAB could drive this by:
    - Setting an example by filling the Spreadsheet for their org(s);
    - Encouraging (aka badgering) others to do the same;
    - Attempting to draw some conclusions and presenting these at an OA.
    I also have an idea for at least one complementary style of events to plenaries and W ’n’ IG chairs meetings but I’ll wait for any reaction to this first.
    (It would also go along the lines of Engagement).
    Cheers, Jamie

    I like this idea, but it would need someone to coordinate and badger.
    cheers,
