IG ETHRD: P6 meeting session - thank you and next steps!

30 Sep 2015

Dear participant of the IG Education and Training on Handling of Research Data (IG ETHRD),

Many thanks for your attendance at our meeting last week.  We were delighted to see so many of you, and for your enthusiasm about feeding back on our current activities and taking our group forward.  This message contains a few brief information points about next steps.

*Point 1*
We will shortly be posting the slides from the speakers, and the notes taken by our note-taker. on this mailing list.  Have you thought of a point or question since the end of the meeting?  Have you identified a task or area that we could usefully work on as a group?  Please reply on the mailing list and share your thoughts.

*Point 2*
Many of you have asked for the link to the wiki so you can contribute to the data handling competences and skills profile project.  It is here (you will need to be signed into the RDA website):
As a brief reminder, in this wiki we are gathering
1. essential skills;
2, desirable skills;
3. relevant projects and publications;

all of which are related to data handling in these 4 specific professions:

a) research librarians (task leader: laura.molloy AT glasgow.ac.uk);
b) research administrators (task leader: Patrice.Ajai-Ajagbe AT acu.ac.uk)
c) research facilities operators / managers (task leader: Y.Demchenko AT uva.nl);
d) researchers (task leader: christopher.jung AT kit.edu)

Please either add your contribution, however large or small, directly to the wiki OR email the task leader with your thoughts.  Thanks to all of you who have already submitted material.  We will close this gathering activity on Tue 15 December, in preparation for our interim meeting in early 2016, so please add your thoughts as soon as you can.

*Point 3*
Interim meeting, Amsterdam, January 2016: we are currently planning an interim meeting to progress work on the data handling competences and skills profile.  It would be useful to have an idea of numbers so if you are interested, please complete this poll **by Wednesday 14 October** to indicate your in-principle availability. This will help with our planning. http://doodle.com/poll/q7xzfcykikdrku43

*Point 4*
We welcome contributions from you to this IG mailing list with any points or suggestions you would like to make, particularly on the following things:
- Engagement with specific other WGs or IGs. For example can we co-create specific outputs with another group?
- Tasks / activities we can undertake together that will result in specific outputs and outcomes.
Identification of potential specific WGs that could emerge from our IG.

Thanks again for coming along this week. Looking forward to working with you!

Best,
Laura Molloy, IG co-chair
and on behalf of Yuri Demchenko, IG co-chair

    Hello all,
    Thank you Laura/Yuri for keep the ball rolling.
    I have accessed the doodle but unfortunately the first half of January I cannot make it. It is there any possibility to manage or consider dates also in the second half?
    Thanks and best regards,
    Eva

    Thanks for this. It looks like that link to the wiki has been mangled somehow, but the following seems to work: https://rd-alliance.org/groups/education-and-training-handling-research-data/wiki/education-and-skills-data-science-wiki
