Subject: RDA DDPIG Task Force on Using schema.org for research dataset
discovery
Dear all,
first of all, our best wishes for a great and productive new academic year!
As you may recall, one of the decisions during the DDPIG session at P11 was
to start a new Task Force with a focus on the use of schema.org for research
dataset discovery - you can find a draft version of the TF proposal here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cuxZGfL0I7dCu8sGcFzlVAKPddggKkbxtcrT...
r-I/edit#
gr-I/edit> .
Given the general interest of the community in this topic, as well as the
recent announcement of the new dataset search service by Google
(https://toolbox.google.com/datasetsearch), we will be hosting a dedicated
call on Thursday, October 4th 2018 in order to get your feedback and
potential leads for the TF.
In order to accommodate all time zones we will be holding the same call
twice on the day, as follows:
* Call #1 (Europe/Asia/Australia) @ 08:00 UTC
using the link https://monash.zoom.us/j/418657328 (see the time in your
local zone here

so=20181004T11&p1=1428&ah=1> &iso=20181004T11&p1=1428&ah=1)
* Call #2 (US/Europe) @ 15:00 UTC
using the link https://cuboulder.zoom.us/j/726223625 (see the time in your

It is important to note that the all points currently listed in the draft
are open to discussion, so please join the call and provide your
perspective. If possible, indicate your intention to attend either of these
calls using this poll: https://doodle.com/poll/48bf7harsaauzrfu.
Looking forward to discussing the new Task Force with you!

I will be unable to attend this meeting. However, I would like to draw your attention to current work underway in the W3C regarding dataset description.
The Dataset Exchange Working Group [1] is preparing a revision of the Dataset Catalog Vocabulary (DCAT) in the light of experience with the original version published in 2014 [2]. The Editors Draft is about to be published as the 2nd Public Working Draft to solicit feedback from the dataset cataloguing community [3].
As part of this a crosswalk with schema.org is included, in order to support further elaboration of dataset descriptions in the newly announced Google dataset search service. You may be interested in reviewing the tabulation in section 11.1 of the draft https://w3c.github.io/dxwg/dcat/#dcat-sdo
