Planning for Montreal Plenary
The focus of our 20 September Montreal meetings are to consider use cases where the IG’s Principles and Guidelines recommending use of CC0 waiver or CC-By license for data distribution may not fit the needs of particular communities of practices. The program comprises two back to back sessions with a 30 minute break in between. Co-Chair Gail will preside over the sessions: Co-Chairs Christoph and Bob will not be in attendance.
The call for additional case study presenters resulted in two proposals from the CODATA community that the IG has accepted. Gail is in contact with one presentersto pin down details and confirm participation; Bernard is in contact with the other.
Session One (open), 1:30 – 3:00: On hour for presentations, three to four presentations of 15 minutes, then 30 minutes of discussion.
- Dr. Melissa Haendel, NIH fundees
- Dr. Carrie Seltzer, Belmont Forum
- Representative from ecological monitoring community on concerns with ‘do no harm’ (awaiting presenter’s title and brief abstract)
- Representative from bibliometrics research group needing to post datasets about Open Access fees that contain publisher data
Session Two (open), 3:30 – 5 pm will be detailed breakout discussions of the case studies in smaller groups with a case presenter and a facilitator/rapporteur.
Presenters will be from first session; rapporteurs will be from the IG; Bernard Minster; Gail Clement; Bob Downs; Steve Diggs (TAB liaison)
ACTION: Gail will prepare and send out an outline of talking points for the presenters and rapporteurs, with regards to what the IG’s Principles and Guidelines recommend about licensing
ACTION: Christoph will inquire with Timea about registration requirement for a case presenter attending just for the program
ACTION: Co-Chairs will remind case study presenters to submit title and brief abstract for the IG’s website
ACTION: Christoph will update the metadata for the program to indicate that the second session is open and presents a break out working group format
ACTION (carried over from July meeting): Simon will set up a closed list for sensitive discussions. Please let me know who should be on that list.
Next call is 25 August. IG members and speakers expected to confirm their participation in Montreal with their titles and abstracts

    Dear Gail,
Thank you for these notes and apologies for my absence from Friday’s call.
    Dear Gail,
Thank you for these notes and apologies for my absence from Friday’s call.
    > ACTION (carried over from July meeting): Simon will set up a closed list for sensitive discussions. Please let me know who should be on that list.
We can set up the private list at the flick of a switch but need some indication from the co-chairs of who should be on that list. Is it to be as extensive as the membership at https://www.rd-alliance.org/groups/rdacodata-legal-interoperability-ig.html or limited to the regular attendees? Either way, we need some guidance from the co-chairs.
Finally, I will not be able to attend the call this Friday either, but Asha will initiate the GoToMeeting.
    With very best wishes,
    Simon.
