RDA Germany conference 2020, 24-26 February

The association of RDA Deutschland e.V. the German RDA Node, Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres and project members of the newly founded German project EcoDM (Ökosystem Datenmanagement; eco system data management) jointly organised the 2020 event of the “RDA Germany conference” series.“

The conference took place at the GeoForschungsZentrum (GFZ) in Potsdam on 25 to 27 February 2020. In addition to the RDA conference itself, a number of training workshops were done in the forefront of the conference. A “Data Carpentry” workshop was done as well as workshops for beginners and advanced users in the field of research data management. Participants were informed about the global RDA initiative. Some of the workshops were co-organized and financed by the newly founded German project EcoDM (Ökosystem Datenmanagement).

Two keynotes about the MOSAIC expedition and the prediction of worldwide virus epidemics (hot topic!) were framing the conference program. Updates about the German NFDI process (Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur; national research data infrastructure) were given. One session was dedicated to the research data management projects, which were established in the German countries on a regional basis. Another topic was the adaption of FAIR principles in various German RDM projects.

This year, grants for five students were offered, which were financed by EcoDM and RDA Germany.

As in the years before, the conference was fully booked out with approximately 200 participants – this is a big success for the organisers in connecting the community of researchers, funders and other stakeholders in Germany.

RDA DE’s twitter account @RDA_Deutschland was very active during the conference and gathered more than 150 followers so far. If you’re interested in the latest RDA activities in Germany, please follow us!
