Just like I did, I’m sure you’ve head of COST and the COST actions many times. COST stands for European Cooperation in Science and Technology and is a funding organisation supporting the creation of research networks called COST actions. When reading about COST a few things stand out: it offers open spaces for researchers to collaborate and has a bottom up approach, meaning that the researchers are the ones setting up the collaboration networks based on their interests and expertise by submitting a proposal to the COST Open Calls.
On Valentine’s Day, 14 February 2019, an Open Day on Open Science was organized in the Netherlands. The gathering was held at DANS in the Hague, and co-hosted by OpenAIRE Advance, the KNAW Young Academy, the Netherlands PhD Network and the RDA NL National Node. Topics included open research data, Research Data Management (RDM), data archiving, and data reuse. There were about 110 attendees, mainly researchers and data professionals from universities and colleges in the Netherlands.
“Libraries are great matchmakers”, tells me Joshua Sendall, the Research Data Manager at the Lancaster University Library, as we get ready for the 7th Data Conversations on 18th February. Our first job was to go and grab the pizzas from the campus pizzaria. Pizza, I learned, is an important part of Data Conversations.
