Open session notes

Much has been done and said around data rescue in 2025 involving replicating data in the US to have redundant copies. But the ability to maintain emergency copies and workflows on top of routine work is not sustainable. This session looks to bring together interested parties to define “research data management resiliency”, metrics for success, and the formation of an Interest Group for sustained effort around research data management resiliency.
We hope to bring together many parties that are already involved in data rescue and/or data resiliency over the years to align different efforts, and form a community of practice and clearinghouse for those looking for literature, tools, or expertise in resilient systems as they apply to research data management.

Meeting agenda

Introduction (10 min)

Defining Research Data Management Resiliency  – What should a framework hold? How does compare to FAIR, CARE, TRUST, others? Is this a reframing of certain parts of other frameworks, something new, something passed down by word of mouth that needs more light? There’s a draft paper being worked on. (10 min)

Introduction of the DataSet Lifecycle Record, (DSLR) – Four components of a DSLR as we have right now. Draft definition presentation. (10 min)

Breakout groups to brainstorm across organizations, policies, data/metadata. What assumptions or implicit details need to be brought out into the light? (15 min)

Discuss results from breakout groups (15 minutes)

Repository Crisis Scorecards – assessing resiliency at a repository/organizational level. Ask for more survey responses. Preliminary showing of analysis, white paper. (20 min)

Conclusion (10 minutes) – possible creation of a new IG/WG? Further direction for work
