Dr. Ana Slavec is a researcher at the InnoRenew CoE where one of her tasks is to support the development and implementation of the institute data management plan and to assist other researchers with data collection, analysis and reporting. She obtained a Ph.D in Statistics in 2016 from the University of Ljubljana where she has been employed as a research assistant at the Centre for Social Informatics and later at the Social Science Data Archives. She is the co-coordinator of the Open Science work group at The European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers (Eurodoc).
FOCUS
I started with my ambassadorial activities after receiving the contract in August 2019. On the 9th of September 2019 I visited the French Institute of Technology for Forest-based and Furniture Sectors (FCBA) where I got feedback about their current data management practices and presented ways in which they can get involved with RDA.
After the visit I contacted a few institutions that are doing research in the field of renewable materials in Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Italy, Finland and Sweden trying to arrange further visits. I selected the institutions to contact based on recommendation of colleagues in my institution who have collaborated with them and gave me contact information. However, although being introduced by a common contact, I struggled to arrange a visit in Denmark, Italy and Finland as we were not able to find a date within the project timeline and I didn’t get any reply from the contact person in Austria. On the other hand, I was successful in Finland and Czech Republic.
On the 22d of October I visited the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems at Aalto University’s School Of Chemical Engineering where I had a lecture about research data management for renewable materials and products and presented RDA. On the 4th of November I had a similar lecture at the Department of Wood Science and Technology at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology at Mender University in Brno.
Due to my pregnancy my further activities were limited to my home country and online. On the 14th of November I presented RDA at the Open Research Data in Slovenia Conference and Workshop at the University Library Maribor organised by the Slovenian RDA node. On the 9th of January I organised a workshop on data management for renewable materials and products at the University of Primorska and on the 23th of January I presented at the Open Science Workshop organised by the Commission for Research and Development Work of the University of Ljubljana and OpenAIRE-Advance National Open Access Desk.
My last presentation was at a webinar that I organised on the 30th of January. After the webinar I prepared an evaluation questionnaire that I sent to participants of the webinar and all of my previous presentations. Out of the 24 participants who took the survey 16 said my presentation of RDA was useful “a lot”, while 8 selected “a little” but none selected “not at all”. Twenty respondents reported that the event met their expectations, while the remaining 4 said it exceeded them. None said that it did not meet their expectations. Fourteen responded they would definitely recommend the presentation to other researchers in the field and 10 selected “probably yes”, while none said they would probably or definitely not recommend it. After the presentation at least 8 people visited an RDA interest or working group website and at least 4 the website of the RDA national node in their country. At least 3 people become RDA members after attending my presentation.
Since that I took part in two roundtables, first on the 18th of June about the European Open Science Cloud at the RDA Node Slovenia conference and second on the 5th of September about transferable skills and the role of open science and the European Open Science Forum in Trieste.
